The first part of the album observes the various atrocities by mankind, and the punishments (plagues, earthquakes, wars) by the Gods who tried to redeem them throughout the ages.

Riders was a concept album, with a central theme of the downfall of mankind caused by their atrocities leading to the arrival of the Four Horsemen at the end of the world – war, pestilence, famine, and ultimately death.
